Dan Snyder, the "King of Chutzpah"
For thirty years, the Washington City Paper has covered the issues and stories the Washington Post, with all of its corporate and political connections, has refused to cover. The City Paper, which is free and relies of advertising revenue, has named the hoity-toity restaurants that have failed health inspections and has dug into the graft and corruption of a succession of Washington mayors, from Marion Barry and Sharon Pratt Kelly to Tony Williams and Adrian Fenty. But when the City Paper wrote a critical article about Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, it was met with a $2 million lawsuit from the media tycoon. The article was titled "The Cranky Redskins Fan's Guide to Dan Snyder."
After the City Paper ran its article on Snyder, which featured a graffiti-ized photograph of Snyder with devil horns and a goatee, the paper's controlling investment firm, Atalaya Capital Management, received a threatening letter from Redskins general counsel David Donovan. The letter, threatening a lawsuit, stated: "We presume that defending such litigation would not be a rational strategy for an investment fund such as yours. Indeed, the cost of the litigation would presumably quickly outstrip the asset value of the Washington City Paper.
Snyder's lawsuit comically claims that the photograph depicting Snyder in devil horns is "anti-Semitic." Snyder is Jewish. The suit against the City Paper is not Snyder's first run-in with the people of the Washington metropolitan area. In December 2004, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission fined Snyder $100 for cutting down over 130 protected trees near his massive estate on the Potomac River in Maryland. Snyder had gone around the local authorities and had the National Park Service, which operates the park where the trees were located, approve the tree cutting. The trees were cut down because Snyder wanted an unobstructed view of the Potomac River.
Dan Snyder mistakenly believes that the people of the Washington metro area love his football team. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are two sorts of Redskins fans in the capital region: the idiots savants who can cite in boring detail the stats of every Redskins player but who cannot name their U.S. senators or members of Congress and the white-collar politicos and paper-pushing class who think it's cool to root for the Redskins because it makes them look all-rounded. However, most of us in the Washington area could give a hoot about the Redskins, their owner, their corporate media-driven hype, their drunken and obnoxious fans, their cheap Chinese-made chatskis, and their overpaid football playing buffoons who come and go with the seasons. In fact, when the Redskins have a losing season, like the last one, many of us in DC breathe a sigh of relief. It means the fans just sit around, cry in their Budweisers, and mumble and grumble. It is the best kind of therapeutic Schadenfreud.
As for Snyder's hysterical charge of anti-Semitism, his chutzpah is overwhelming. Snyder, who has dismissed complaints from native Americans that the term "Redskin" is a vile racist appellation, is in no place to charge anyone with anti-Semitism, whether warranted or not. In the case of the City Paper, Snyder's using an old and worn-out canard to generate sympathy from the usual whiny crowd of professional complainants: Abe Foxman and Rabbi Marvin Hier of the Simon Wiesenthal Center lead the pedantic refrain of leveling such spurious charges. Snyder and his pals, who don't seem to understand the offensiveness of the term "Redskins," would likely be the first to go nuts if someone decided to name a team the "Hebeskins." Both are equally offensive, as is the Cleveland Indians baseball team racist logo of a native American with buck teeth and a big nose.
We can only wonder what Snyder and his friends would think if a professional sports team like the Cleveland Indians used a caricature of a Jew as a mascot, such as the following:
So rather than sue the Washington City Paper, citing anti-Semitism as one of the pulled-out-your-ass reasons, we have another idea for you Mr. Snyder. Take yourself, your racist-themed football team, and your money and get the hell out of Washington and leave us and our independent sources of information and news alone....
January , 2011 -- If you do hard-hitting TV news in Washington, DC, it won't last very long
TV news: its only about control.....
With the advent of Fox News and the drastically dumbed-down CNN and MS-NBC to propagate around the world U.S. and neocon disinformation "news," which was supplemented by flashy graphics and music to lure in the viewer, it did not take long for governments around the world to take notice.
The government of Qatar bankrolled Al Jazeera as a 24x7 global news network, first with an Arabic service and followed by an English service. The Russian government, through the Novosti news agency, followed with Russia Today (now known merely as "RT"). RT's original purpose was to provide news in English to foreign visitors who were hungry for news in English from their hotel room televisions. Soon, RT opened news bureaus around the world and began to regularly broadcast from a new studio in Washington, DC. The focus of RTTV America was the political, financial, and social situation in the United States. Almost immediately, as a result of its broadcasts being carried not only on the Internet but also on a broadcast station in northern Virginia and NBC cable, RT became a success among Americans tired of the same "pasteurized" and manufactured news emanating from the news bureaus in Washington and New York.
Not to be left out of the picture, Iran's government began Press TV and through an embargo work-around through a Danish network, the news network was able to begin broadcasting news programs from Washington.
However, the powers that control the news from the right and the left in the United States -- Rupert Murdoch and George Soros, respectively, obviously grew tired of the new independent competition from Qatar and Russia. Al Jazeera, which was threatened by President George W. Bush with a military attack on its broadcast headquarters in Doha, brought in a number of ex-BBC and CNN International reporters. This editor appeared quite often on Al Jazeera Arabic and English at a time when many U.S. commentators did not want to appear "disloyal" during the outset of the fraudulent U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. For me, it was a badge of honor to appear on the premier news network in the Middle East and constituted a royal "F*** You" to the neocons in the Bush administration.
Al Jazeera English lost its "bite" and WMR learned from a source close to CNN founder Ted Turner that Murdoch and his senior Newscorp advisers were permitted to secretly take part in the reorganization of Al Jazeera English as a quid pro quo with the Bush administration.
Today, Al Jazeera English provdes a platform for the same Council on Foreign Relations globalist policy wonks that one normally finds on the U.S. government-subsidized and increasingly-controlled PBS. Jazeera English even gives a platform to pro-Israeli commentators who have always found a home on the corporate news networks.
With the bite gone from Al Jazeera English, RT America began to pick up the slack and gained new viewers in the United States as it took on issues ranging from secret prisons and detention centers across the United States, bigotry toward American Muslims and Arabs, Jewish terrorist paramilitary training camps in upstate New York, and CIA-supported coups in Honduras and Ecuador and CIA coup attempts in Venezuela and Bolivia. This editor was a regular commentator on the CIA's Latin American chicanery, as well as other covert U.S. government programs to create and spread the H1N1 flu pandemic and conduct "false flag" operations in Korean waters and inside Iraq. I also took on the Israeli murderous actions against innocent people in Gaza and aboard a Turkish Gaza aid convoy vessel. In addition, it was not long into the Obama administration that I appeared on RT taking them on for their continued policy of torture and extrajudicial assassinations of U.S. citizens abroad. I also criticized George Soros's international destabilization operations, including his funding for the over-hyped "leak" of State Department cables by Soros-funded Wikileaks and its weird founder Julian Assange.
For almost a year, RT provided a TV news outlet where certain WMR investigative scoops were carried globally on satellite. Famed Washington investigative journalist Jack Anderson enjoyed a similar deal with ABC's "Good Morning America" in the 1980s. Anderson's deal lasted a little longer but both deals are now history.
With Al Jazeera out of the way, the media elite, represented by Walter Isaacson, former Time magazine managing editor and CNN chairman and CEO, and current president of the stodgy Aspen Institute and Obama's chairman of the Broadcasting Board of Governors, the U.S. government's propaganda arm that runs the Voice of America and the Soros-linked Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty, and Radio Free Asia, launched a major broadside attack against the foreign independent TV news media operating from the United States. Isaacson, another Rhodes scholar like his pal Bill Clinton, launched a tirade last September against RT, Venezuela's Telesur, Press TV, and China's CCTV, all of which broadcast from the United States. Isaacson called the networks "enemies" of America.
Telesur and PressTV were not intimidated by Isaacson's neocon tempter tantrum. And, on the surface, RT was not cowed either. The RT network anchors launched a blistering counter-attack on Isaacson.
However, it was not long before loyal viewers of RT began to tell me that they felt the network was losing its "bite," that it was having too many Soros-funded "think tank" guests from organizations like the pro-Obama Center for American Progress showing up blathering generalities about "safe" issues that one could see on any of the corporate news networks. And things have gotten worse.
Today, there are known Obama hacks on RT, one, who once called this editor a "conspiracy theory knucklehead," has his own boring television show where the line of effete intellectual questioning is as about as interesting as that of the late William F. Buckley's PBS show "Firing Line" or CFR member Charlie Rose's sleep-inducing questioning on his late night PBS show. Making matters worse, WMR has learned from an informed source that some guests for the show in question are now being recommended by an individual who, at best, can be described as a Democratic Party dirty tricks operative with ties to Isaacson's old Time magazine chum Strobe Talbott, and at worst, a convicted terrorist and a suspected pedophile, drug smuggler, and murderer.
One thing is for sure, the "post-Isaacson attack" RT likely would never touch the type of interview this editor recently conducted on Obama and Rahm Emanuel on the Reality Report out of Chicago. Fans of the "old RT," however, miss this type of news and commentary that pulled no punches and was not afraid to offend Republicans or Democrats.
It is uncertain how much Prime Minister Vladimir Putin knows about his Russian state-funded news network being infiltrated and turned into an agenda-laden echo chamber by individuals with past and current ties to Soros and his network of exiled Russian oligarchs who seek to topple the Putin government in a Soros trademark "themed revolution," such as that most recently conducted in Tunisia. However, if you, like others, feel that RT must grow back its sharp teeth and regain its "bite," they would be happy to hear your suggestions....
January , 2011 -- Society of Professional Journalists drops Helen Thomas Lifetime Achievement Award
The Israelis are fond of harassing 90-year old women in the occupied territories. But now they're doing it in our country....
The board of directors of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) voted on January 14 to "retire" the Helen Thomas Lifetime Achievement Award because of the remarks of the former White House correspondent about Israel's continued illegal occupation of Palestinian territories and the influence of Zionists in the United States.
It should be pointed out that SPJ's current president, Hagit Limor, is a native of Israel.
This editor, along with other SPJ members, were asked for their opinions on the decision to scrap the Helen Thomas Award. My response:
"The retirement of the Helen Thomas award, in my opinion, smacks of censorship and caving in to the 'bullying' for which the Israel Lobby is infamous. There is also no indication that SPJ's national president, as an Israeli native, recused herself from the decision-making process, which should have happened considering her own obvious conflicts-of-interest.
This was a very bad decision that will have dire consequences for press freedom, especially since nations around the world happen to agree with Helen and are lining up to recognize Palestine within those 1967 borders to which Helen was referring when she said the occupiers of which should return from whence they came."

Wendi Deng Murdoch, the Chinese "dragon lady" wife of neocon media mogul Rupert Murdoch was there, along with the former "bag lady" Secretary of State Madeleine Albright; her god-daughter Susan Rice -- Obama's UN ambassador; her husband, ABC News producer Ian Cameron; the host of the show Cameron produces, Christian Amanpour; and Amanpour's husband James Rubin, Albright's one-time spokesman. It was like "old home week" for the nastier players from the Clinton administration. And topping it all off, the old philanderer-in-chief "Slick Willie" Clinton was there himself.
And the old Bechtel criminal from the Reagan administration George Shultz managed to rise from his crypt to fly to Washington for the dinner.
And the AIPAC contingent was also at the dinner in force, no doubt to wag their fingers at Hu for being too cozy with Iran. "Weird Howard" Berman, the former chairman of the House Foreign Relations Committee, was present along with Maryland Representative Steny Hoyer, arch-neocon Robert Kagan, and Under Secretary of State for Economic, Business, and Agricultural Affairs Robert Hormats, the former vice chairman of Goldman Sachs. Adding to the "slime of the time" was David Rubenstein, the founder of The Carlyle Group.
Not to be forgotten, Obama's "Chicago Mafia" was at the dinner in force: Mayor Richard Daley; his brother, incoming Obama chief of staff William Daley; Tom Pritzker of the Pritzker real estate conglomerate of Chicago; David Axelrod; Education Secretary Arne Duncan, and Valerie Jarrett.
The pseudo-journalists of the corporate media were also present: David Ignatius of The Washington Post, Thomas Friedman and Nicholas Kristof of The New York Times, and The Atlantic's James Fallows.
However, while Obama invited only one representative from labor, the UAW's Robert King, his red carpet was rolled out for the leading financial shysters of Wall Street: Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs and Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan Chase. And to remind Obama who helped to "make" him and a "Mom named Stanley," Luis Ubinas of The Ford Foundation in New York showed up.
An indication that Obama plans to ship more American jobs to China was the presence of the CEOs from Dow Chemical of "Agent Orange" infamy, Microsoft, Motorola, General Electric, Intel, and Boeing.
And rounding out the evening was the presence of Barbra Streisand and there is no telling what she said or did to her old White House boyfriend, Slick Willie Clinton....

I am appalled by the recent personal blog written by Richard Falk, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on "the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967."
In this blog post, dated January 11, 2011, Mr. Falk endorses the slurs of conspiracy theorists who allege that the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were perpetrated and then covered up by the U.S. government and media.
Mr. Falk's comments are despicable and deeply offensive, and I condemn them in the strongest terms. I have registered a strong protest with the UN on behalf of the United States. The United States has in the past been critical of Mr. Falk's one-sided and politicized approach to his work for the UN, including his failure to condemn deliberate human rights abuses by Hamas, but these blog comments are in another category altogether.
In my view, Mr. Falk's latest commentary is so noxious that it should finally be plain to all that he should no longer continue in his position on behalf of the UN. I would note that U.S. and many other diplomats walked out in protest in September 2010 when Iranian President Ahmadinejad made similarly slanderous remarks before the UN General Assembly.
The United States is deeply committed to the cause of human rights and believes that cause will be better advanced without Mr. Falk and the distasteful sideshow he has chosen to create.
